Frequently Asked Questions
Where do classes take place?
Classes do not meet at the front gate of the zoo. Instead, all education classes take place in the Gaska Family Education Wing building, located a short drive from the front gate.
Do I need to register in advance?
Yes, online registration is required prior to the day of the class.
May I enroll my child in a class for older/younger students?
Activities are carefully planned based on age-appropriate skills. For the learning benefit of all students, we ask you to please follow the age/grade guidelines.
What should my child wear to a drop-off class?
Students should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes. Clothing and shoes that can get wet or dirty recommended. We ask that students come to class with sunscreen and bug spray pre-applied.
What should my student bring to a drop-off class?
Students should bring a refillable water bottle, and full day campers should bring a non-refrigerated lunch (unless otherwise stated in the class description). Reusable boxed/bags encouraged!
Will students interact with animals?
Yes! All classes include safe encounters with one or more of our education animal ambassadors.
What happens in the event of rain or severe weather on the day of the class?
Our classes are held rain or shine with appropriate shelter and safety protocols. However, in the case extreme weather, we will contact you by phone before the class to cancel or reschedule.
What if I can’t make it to class due to illness or another unforeseen event?
Please let us know before the start of the class if your child is unable to be in attendance so that we can arrange for a refund. You may call the Administrative Office at 417-833-1570 to speak with someone in the education department.
